About Stroke Sight
About this app
Stroke Sight is a wellness support app for people living with post-stroke visual impairments — hemianopia, quadrantanopia, visual neglect, and scotoma. It is not a medical device and does not replace professional rehabilitation. Use it alongside guidance from your neuro-optometrist, stroke rehabilitation team, or low-vision specialist.
Stop and consult your clinician if you experience increased headaches, dizziness, nausea, or visual symptoms during or after exercises.
Our approach to visual rehabilitation
After a stroke, different visual and attentional changes can occur depending on which part of the brain is affected. These exercises target the most common consequences — loss of part of the visual field, reduced awareness of one side of space, and blind spots within the remaining field — using approaches supported by clinical evidence.

How to use this app
- Practise little and often — short, regular sessions suit most people. Your clinical team can advise what's right for you.
- Start with Peripheral Flicker if fatigue is high.
- Show your Progress tab to your therapist at appointments.
- This app works fully offline — no internet needed after first save.
Important
This app is a supplement to professional rehabilitation, not a replacement. Recovery from stroke-related visual field loss varies greatly between individuals. Always follow your clinical team's guidance.
Driving: visual field loss usually affects legal fitness to drive, and improvement in these exercises does not mean your visual field has changed — speak to your clinician and your licensing authority before driving. If your sight changes suddenly, treat it as an emergency. If your visual field has never been formally assessed, ask your GP or eye clinic about a referral to an orthoptist or low-vision service, and take extra care on your affected side around obstacles, kerbs and traffic.
Clinical basis
Hemianopia exercises (Anchor & Scan, Reading Line Scan, Scrolling Text, Peripheral Flicker, Visual Search Grid) are based on the compensatory saccadic scanning approach described in stroke rehabilitation research (Zihl, Kerkhoff, Pambakian, Trauzettel-Klosinski). Visual neglect exercises (Smooth Pursuit, Line Bisection calibration) follow the smooth-pursuit eye-movement training approach studied in neglect research. Spatial auditory cues draw on the multisensory stimulation research of Bolognini and Tinelli. Scotoma exercises (Blind Spot Tracker, Gap Fill) provide awareness training and perceptual completion practice around the blind spot area. This complements — but does not replace — the eccentric viewing and Preferred Retinal Locus training offered by low-vision specialists. Stroke Sight itself has not been clinically evaluated; it is a self-management practice tool, not a treatment.
